It’s a consensus, Melissa’s House Party last night was amazing! From the décor to the food everything was, simply put, divine. The warmth and hospitality provided by Melissa as she greeted each guest was outstanding as the rest of us gathered to socialize, make new friends, and introduce ourselves to the amazing EWI women and their work.
The party began around 6:30 p.m. as people trickled in. Everyone was greeted with refreshments of lemonade, apple cider, or your choice of red or white wine along with mouthwatering aromas of quiches and soups all of which were prepared by Melissa. (If you want a good recipe for a quiche I recommend asking Melissa. There were six different kinds and each one that I tried was out of this world!) In no time, the house was full and people began to make their way downstairs where the real excitement and treasures were located.
In the basement, where we had set up shop earlier, awaited Velma with her lovely aprons, Clementine with her beautiful floral arrangements, and Mariam with her versatile bags along with jewelry from past EWI graduates. I was upstairs for the majority of the evening, but there was not one moment when I didn’t hear or see somebody “ooing” and “ahhing” over these wonderful products. Sharmila, another wonderful EWI graduate, was also upstairs decorating guests’ hands with her beautiful and always unique henna designs.
As the night came to an end, we all gathered upstairs to eat and pause in order to hear EWI’s incredible story and the accounts of these remarkable women. It was my first time, as well as many others’, to hear first-hand these inspirational stories. I was moved and touched by each one.
What an inspiring night! I don’t think anyone could have asked for more as we each left with memories of laughter, joy, and the good company we had all just shared.
