From Alexandria News:

2011 Nominees

Over 250 gathered at the Patent & Trademark Office Madison building to honor Alexandria’s Living Legends on St. Patrick’s Day. Guests mingled in the lower atrium before the program.  Legendary Light Fare was provided by Barrett’s of Alexandria, Hard Times Cafe, Nickell’s & Scheffler, Mango Mike’s, Joe Theismann’s Restaurant, Asian Bistro, a la Lucia and Matters of Taste Catering. There probably was no more fitting day to celebrate 12 people whose lives made an extraordinary difference to Alexandrians.  St Patrick, after all, came to Ireland at 16, a slave.  He escaped  and later returned as a priest and bishop and succeeded in changing the future course of a country and a people.

The 2011 Legends include Mollie Abraham, Lynnwood Campbell, William Clayton, H. Stewart Dunn, Timothy S. Elliott, Jon Liss, Peter Lunt, Don Mela, Fran and Gant Redmon, Carlyle C. Connie Ring, Jack Taylor and Joseph F. Viar, Jr.  Special guests included the Honorable William D. Euille, mayor of Alexandria and General George Washington as portrayed by Don DeHaven.

Now beginning its fourth year, Living Legends of Alexandria is an ongoing 501(c)(3) photo-documentary project to identify, honor and chronicle Alexandria’s Living Legends.  The project was conceived by Nina Tisara to create an enduring artistic record of the people whose vision and dedication make a positive, tangible difference to the quality of life in Alexandria.  Platinum and Gold Sponsors this year are Club Managers Association of America, Erkiletian Real Estate Development, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Renner & Co., and the Rotary Club of Alexandria.  Media sponsors include Local Kicks, and founding sponsor the Alexandria Gazette Packet.
